Expert Veterinarians and Horse owners have long relied on the application ice/cold to areas of pain or injury. Cold therapy has been proven helpful in both reducing inflammation and controlling pain. Yet, the use of cold therapy (cryotherapy) is often overlooked following intense training or exercise.
The use of cold therapy (ice) has a wide range of applications that include:
Acute Tendonitis
Bruising
Muscle Pain
Swelling due to injury
Equine Heat Therapy
With its' proven effects on circulation, metabolism and nerves, Veterinarians and Horsemen have long used heat in the rehabilitation of chronic equine injuries. These injuries present a special challenge to diagnose and to treat in horses. When untreated, such injuries often result in compensation by the horse as they tend to shift weight from the injured area to another area or limb. As a result, additional strain is often placed on other areas of the body. Over time, lameness and/or atrophy may result from disuse of the chronically injured area.
Heat therapy can benefit such injuries as:
Adhesive Capsulitis
Arthritis
Bursitis
Muscle Soreness
Tendonitis
For best results, follow the instruction of your veterinarian for placement and duration of cold/heat application.
